Asbestos is one waste stream that most people are very aware of. In fact, most of you will have asbestos in your workplace and not even know it. I am sure you know that exposure to damaged or degraded asbestos can cause health risks over time.

In recent times it has been announced that all commercial premises must be surveyed. This is to highlight the presence of asbestos-containing materials. These regulations are called MDHS100 and came into force in May 2002. At Spirechem we undertake comprehensive surveys with plans and photographs to highlight any such materials, completed by specialists who can advise on the best course of action. In most cases asbestos-containing materials can be left in situ and encapsulated and will cause you no harm. Only if the material is severely damaged or unstable is removal necessary.

Removal

Asbestos containing materials come in many different forms. Some are non-hazardous and as such can be removed without pre-notification to the Environment Agency, whereas others can represent extreme health risks and would need pre-notifying.
